SNOW NOSED, BLUE EYED, BUILT FOR FUN WITH BRAINS FOR TRAINING AND A DESIRE TO PLEASE THAT WILL MAKE TRAINING EASY. This is one wonderful dog. He has brains and beauty, is energetic but not to the point of being obnoxious and has a desire to please. He learns very quickly because of it and his heart could not be any bigger or more ready for someone to bond with. Aspen was a stray we picked up from a Good Samaritan who had seen him in the same area, growing thinner and thinner for over a week. Attempts to find his owner failed so their loss is your gain. Aspen loves people and he is very good with social friendly, "wanna play?" Type dogs. We would not however, recommend a home where cats are loved. While he has not tried to attack any kitties, his interest is very intense and it makes cats uncomfortable. We are not willing to guarantee that feeling is not without merit. Another great thing about Aspen is his age. This boy is only about 18 months old and incredibly healthy. Like a big dog? Aspen is 84 lbs and about 10 lbs underweight so no slouch in the size department. He will walk nicely on a leash if you remind him of his manners but if you lack the backbone to convince him you're in charge, get ready to have your arms pulled out of their sockets. It's not his fault. It is what he was bred to do so be prepared to instruct otherwise when out on a walk and you will have a great time. He has learned some basic commands like, sit, down, off and wait in just the short time he has been with us. He will be amazing with consistence and dedication. Aspen also has great vertical leaping skills so a very secure yard will be necessary. He is not a "nights and weekends" type dog but needs a human companion and to be part of their life. True to any dog of this breeding, the human/canine dynamic is strong. He will not do well kenneled or contained most of the time. He wants to be part of your life, not one of your possessions. Aspen keeps a clean kennel at the rescue center so should be a cinch to housebreak if he is not already. He is very fastidious about his "duty" when let outside to take care of his business and takes great pains to cover it up with grass, dirt and sticks, when he is done. He is a very clean dog when given the opportunity to stay that way. So if you want a eye catching, fun loving, socially adept, intelligent, lively, athletic and big hearted canine companion, you could not go wrong with Aspen.
